Citroflor’s headquarters, including its plantations, farm, production site, offices, laboratory and warehouse, are located on a narrow strip of the Ionian Coast about 30 miles away from the city of Reggio Calabria.
The decision to establish Citroflor on this particular stretch of land was based on the area’s micro-climate, which produces ideal conditions for citrus growth and more specifically for bergamot. In fact, despite numerous attempts to grow this fruit in different parts of the world, the bergamot orange grows almost exclusively on the Ionian Coast. This is due to the area’s unique geomorphology (wide valleys and mineral-rich alluvial soils) which makes this part of the Calabrian coast, one of the only places in the world where quality bergamot groves can thrive.
